Whiteheads occur because of combinations of oil, sebum and cellular fragments which form rigid plugs in hair follicles. They are closed from top by cellular fragments at the opening of the follicles. Since the surface of the whiteheads is closed, they are not exposed to oxygen.
They whiteheads do not turn brown as there is no oxidization. They are light yellow in colour and are also called milia. Whiteheads in combination with bacterial lead to acne and can also cause cystic acne. Areas which are prone to whiteheads are the skin around the cheeks and eyes.

There are many skins which are not able to do exfoliating well. They secrete an excess of sebum. If there is too much of exposure to the sun, milia can take place.

Whiteheads are the greatest fear of beauty. They are present in adults and teenagers. Many people mistake whiteheads for pimples as they look the same. But there is a lot of difference between the two and whiteheads should be removed carefully.

Dermatologists say that whiteheads are caused because of the accumulation of sebum in the skin pores. If the pores are closed, bacteria will stay under the skin and it will grow and form a whitehead after a few days.

Whiteheads usually can be seen on the face, especially around the eyes and cheeks. Some people even get whiteheads on neck, chest and foreheads.

Tips to Get Rid of Whiteheads

Use a face wash and wash your face twice a day, preferably with warm water.
Cleaning with exfoliation will help you to get rid of whiteheads. It will also prevent the formation of new whiteheads.
Try and use an exfoliating scrub once a week to remove the dirt, preventing the formation of whiteheads. Use curd and oatmeal and scrub your face with it.
Use a clay mask once a week.
Use oil free facial products. Do not use any product which does not suit your skin. Do not touch your skin with hands.
Do not let your skin dry. Use an oil free moisturizer. It will prevent more whiteheads from being formed. Keep your skin well moisturized.
Whiteheads are removed by the use of an extractor. Steam your face in boiled water and cover your head with a towel. Steam allows the pores to open. Then look into a mirror and use the extractor to take out the whiteheads. This will remove the whiteheads properly.

Apply little alcohol on the treated area. This will prevent bacteria to enter the open pores. Many dermatologists say that whiteheads should not be removed by an extractor. But if you are using one, remember to sterile it before using.

Gentle exfoliating scrubs and peels can also be used to take out the debris on the skin. Wash your face with warm water at least twice a day. You can also place a hot towel on your face.

If you have whiteheads, remember to drink lots of water, eat fresh fruits and drink plenty of fresh juice. Also drink a glass of warm honey water the first thing in the morning. This will detoxify your skin. Do not use heavy makeup and avoid touching your skin with your hands. These will help you to get rid of the whiteheads.
